Una moda che prese piede prima negli argenti e poi nelle ceramiche, prima in Francia, in particolare a Strasburgo, poi in Germania, a Meissen, è la ripresa in forma tridimensionale di animali, di verdure o di frutta, in modo da anticipare nel contenitore il contenuto, ovvero il cibo. Così è in questa zuppiera a forma di cavolo della fabbrica Hannong di Strasburgo, dove il verde è applicato direttamente sulla terracotta, secondo una lavorazione detta "frisé" tipica della manifattura.
Oggetti simili erano prodotti anche presso la manifattura di Le Nove di Bassano e a Milano, fabbrica di Felice Clerici.
