Le due mensole dovevano far parte originariamente di una specchiera sopracamino, poste verticalmente ai lati. Nella fotografia n. 158, del catalogo di L. Mallè mobili e arredi lignei, 1972, sono poste arbitariamente sulla specchiera n. 1371/L, nella sala di Madama Reale; Mallè descrive " in cima due elementi accostati di volute contrapposte, cui manca un elemento mediano, perduto. " p. 22. Adattati in questo modo in epoca imprecisata, i due elementi furono in quell'occasione sagomati alla base per accogliere l'elemento ornamentale perduto.
