Si tratta, verosimilmente, di un disegno di studio per la tela di Beaumont, raffigurante "L'Allegoria delle Virtù regie: intelletto e virtù consegnate da Mercurio alla Fama senza tempo della storia". Il dipinto è oggi conservato a Palazzo Carignano e nel 2005 sarà collocato in Sala Feste a Palazzo Madama. (Cfr. S. Pettenati, G. Romano, Il Tesoro della Città.., 1996, p. 149).
