I tre pezzi disposti a formare un trittico (cfr. schede n. 0496/D-0497/D), apparsi con altri cinque analoghi nella vendita Burton del 4 maggio 1951 presso Christie's (con attribuzione a Macrino d'Alba), facevano parte di un complesso monumentale - come avverte G. Romano, 1970, p. 23 - composto dalle immagini dei nostri San Pietro, San Lorenzo e Santa Lucia, dai santi Giovanni Battista, Stefano, Agata, Giovanni Evangelista e Paolo, dalle sante Caterina (passata a Francoforte alla vendita Von Hessel dell'ottobre 1920) e Margherita (vendita Vieweg-Brauschweig, Berlino, 18/03/1930). Il monumentale polittico ruotava attorno ad un centro ancora non identificato.
